Week 1: Degree Question/Answers

Question: How can graphic design teach and connect various cultures through music?

At first, I was thinking of creating a community through an iPad/iPhone app that connects people from around the world through music sharing. The word "sharing" isn't quite appropriate, it seems, because it isn't quite about "sharing" but more about connectivity. Since then, I have thought about what kind of app this could be. Can it be an app that is based around a community? Perhaps people sign in, create their own profile, and start discussing via topics. That answer seems like a generic setup, something I want to get away from.

Perhaps it isn't about people to people interaction but rather an app informing one person about another culture. Perhaps it is an app that connect one person to another person with similar music taste but not the same language. I love the idea that there might be a language barrier and it will come through that music is the language of the world. People can connect without even talking. Perhaps it's an app where people can suggest their own taste in music and it would provide the user with similar music from around the world (such like Pandora).

What I'm stuck on is inputting "teach" in there. Perhaps this needs a person to person interaction so that they can teach one another "why this is popular in our country". Maybe this app is a one person app where they get updates every week that focuses on one country and their music and how their particular sound has developed. Can this app work like a newspaper? Can it update itself and show "What's Hot" or what's trending? Perhaps inform with a little background.

Many more answers will come about but these are what I have been thinking of.
